Norooz in Pasadena is a celebration of the Persian New Year brought to Pasadena through the vision of Dr. Nazee Rofagha. Norooz in Pasadena is a non-religious and non-political cultural entity which was established in 2007. The Mission is to celebrate and promote Iranian arts and culture. The word “Norooz” means “new day” and refers to a new beginning, a new year. It begins precisely at the time of the vernal equinox, which marks the beginning of Spring, on or about March 21. Tradition takes Norooz as far back as 15,000 years--before the last ice age. King Jamshid (Yima or Yama of the Indo-Iranian lore) symbolizes the transition of the Indo-Iranians from animal hunting to animal husbandry and a more settled life in human history.
